Why we need to study more to improve amal?

 

1) Knowledge make a person more humble.

    The more a person attain knowledge, the more humble and virtuous the person would be. Imam Syafie once said, "the more I gain knowledge, the more I know about my stupidity". From this, we can reflect that the more we seek knowledge, the more we realize that there are many things we do not know. Therefore, we are encouraged to seek knowledge as much as possible so that it can be practiced in daily actions at the same time lead us to be more humble. 

2) A Muslim is able to improve the quality of worship. 

    The more knowledge a person have, the better his amal will be. When we have knowledge, we can pay attention to something in more detail that we sometimes overlook. Besides that, we will be more passionate in doing the amal when we know the purpose and advantages of doing it. For example, learning and understanding the meaning of the recitation in the prayer can lead us be more sincere and diligent in performing it by appreciating the meaning of the recitation. Therefore, with knowledge, we can improve the quality of our worship.

3) The ranks of the knowledgeable person is high in the sight of Allah.

    In addition to rewarding good deeds in seeking knowledge, Allah also recognizes people who are knowledgeable. Allah stated in the Qur'an, Surah Al-Mujadila, verse 11:

يَرْفَعِ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْعِلْمَ دَرَجَاتٍ ۚ وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ

Meanings: Allah will raise those who believe among you and those who were given knowledge, by many degrees. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.

In this verse, knowledgeable people are praised by Allah in the Qur'an where their rank is elevated in the sight of Allah. Thus, it will be an encouragement to Muslims to seek knowledge in order to improve their amal.

4) Knowledge can improve one's self. 

    Self-improvement can be defined as the act or process of improving oneself by one's own actions. As a Muslim, we must always have the desire and effort to be a better Muslim than ever before. In doing so, a person who works hard to increase knowledge and learn new skills can help him to become a better Muslim day by day. However, the person is reminded to always ask for guidance from God to lead him to the straight path.
